Vice presidents from Teal Group and ONE Gas to speak at economic outlook conference

Richard Aboulafia, vice president of analysis for Teal Group; Caron Lawhorn, senior vice president, commercial for ONE Gas; and Mykel Taylor, assistant professor at Kansas State University, will speak at the 37th annual Kansas Economic Outlook Conference hosted by Wichita State University's Center for Economic Development and Business Research. The event will be held from 7:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Century II Convention Hall.

Aboulafia will present on the U.S. aerospace industry. He manages consulting projects in the commercial and military aircraft field and analyzes broader defense and aerospace trends. He has advised numerous aerospace companies and financial institutions on aerospace market conditions. In addition to writing publicly about aviation and defense in such publications as the Wall Street Journal and Aviation Week, Aboulafia has also appeared on numerous television news and radio programs including ABC, BBC, Bloomberg, Reuters, CBS, CNN, NBC and NPR.

Lawhorn will present on the U.S. natural gas industry. Lawhorn is responsible for commercial activities for three natural gas distribution utilities under ONE Gas, including the Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, Kansas Gas Service and Texas Gas Service. She has nearly 20 years of experience in this industry and serves as the secretary-treasurer of the board of directors of the Southern Gas Association.

Taylor will present a Kansas farm update. Her research and extension programs are focused in the areas of crop marketing and farm management. She has worked in extension positions at both Kansas State University and Washington State University. Some of her current research areas include measuring basis risk for commodity grains, understanding the implications of food safety and country of origin labeling on meat demand, and analyzing trends in Kansas agricultural land values, rental rates and leasing arrangements.
