* With the upcoming email change for students, during the early fall students will have the ability to integrate with faculty and staff calendars. This means students can view faculty and staff free and busy time in their calendars and send invitations for meetings. Please be attentive to such invites as we need to accommodate our students to fulfill the university's mission to be student centered and innovation driven.
* Welcomefest speaker Bree Newsome will present "Tearing Hate From the Sky," at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the RSC Beggs Ballroom. Tickets are $3 for faculty and staff at the University Bookstore. Newsome is an award-winning filmmaker known for "WAKE," writer, composer, singer, community activist and organizer. * Want to make a difference? Community Service Board is dedicated to passionate service together. Visit more than 20 different community-based organizations from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the RSC, and learn more about volunteer opportunities in the Wichita metro community. * Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace is a new interactive training that includes activities and discussion focused on recognizing microaggressions, understanding social identity and the matrix of oppression, learning how to get past stereotypes and prejudices, understanding the definition of racism and learning ways to address issues and give feedback. The Offices of Diversity and Inclusion and Human Resources will present this new training course from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1. Registration is available through myTraining.
* WSU's Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literature is working alongside the Kansas Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese for a teacher institute Friday-Saturday, Sept. 16-17, at WSU. Participants will hear from nationally board certified teachers and learn new techniques for teaching 90 percent in the target language. The cost to attend is $55 for members of KATSP and $65 for nonmembers before Thursday, Sept. 1.
