Center for Excellence in Oral Communication

WSU's new Center for Excellence in Oral Communication will open Tuesday, Sept. 6, in 221 Elliott Hall. Somewhat comparable to a writing lab, the new center will focus on assisting students (faculty and staff are also welcome) with reducing the fear of public speaking and with their oral presentations.

Other services include assisting in the choice of a topic, developing an outline and delivering the speech effectively. The center is equipped with a camera so speeches can be recorded and critiqued by experienced Elliott School of Communication Graduate Teaching Assistants. Clients will be provided an electronic copy of their speech. To learn more, visit the center's website at http://wichita.edu/speechlab.

Location: 221 Elliott Hall
Phone: 978-6552
Email: speechlab@wichita.edu

Reservations are encouraged (phone or email), but walk-in traffic will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis. On the first visit, clients will be administered the Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety (McCroskey, 1970) to assess the level of communication apprehension. You will also be asked to sign in and to complete a registration form. We look forward to serving the WSU community.
