'Boot Steps' to be shown on Tuesday, Sept. 20

You are invited to join the WSU School of Social Work and WSU TV for a showing of "Boot Steps," a program telling the story of veterans engaging with social work and art here at the WSU campus. The showing will take place at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, in 100 Lindquist Hall. There will be a brief Q&A following the showing.

The school was invited by the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita to partner for their "Boot Steps" art outreach. With this project, veterans were able to share their stories of their military experiences and their homeless experiences.

Master of Social Work students engaged in three facilitated events with these community veterans here at the WSU campus in Shaunna Millar's ScWk 611J Creative Empowerment, a course originally developed as part of the Tilford Diversity Fellowship in 2015. A Final Friday was held with WSU ShiftSpace in July, in which veteran participants were able to showcase their work.

WSU TV filmed these activities, and created a 30-minute program highlighting the work of the veterans and students together. We are excited to share these experiences with the wider campus and Wichita community, and invite you to join us for the showing of this program.
