Reminders, deadlines and events
* The Psychology Department's first colloquium speaker this fall will be Charles Pickens, assistant professor in the Psychological Sciences Department at Kansas State University. Pickens will talk about his research, which has real and important implications for our understanding of alcohol use and abuse from 3:30-5 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 13) in 128 Jabara Hall.
* University Libraries is hosting a workshop, "Protecting Your Intellectual Property: How and Why," from 6-7 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 13) in 217 Ablah Library. This is the first workshop in the new Entrepreneurship Research Series this semester. * A film screening of the documentary "CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap" will be held at 6 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 13) in the CAC Theater. Admission is free. A reception will precede the screening at 5 p.m. at the Ulrich Museum of Art. This documentary exposes the dearth of American female and minority software engineers and explores the reasons for this gender gap and digital divide.

* Young Shocker Professionals invite members and prospective members to a Brown Bag Lunch at noon Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Food Truck Plaza. We'll plan on meeting there and either eating there or going to the Grace Wilkie Annex conference room if the weather isn't good.
* Student Perception of Teaching Effectiveness (SPTE) request forms should arrive in your department via campus mail in the next couple of days. * Join the Community Service Board (CSB) as they help the homeless and those in poverty in Wichita volunteering through their series event, Wednesdays at the Diner, at The Lord's Diner. This volunteer opportunity takes place from 5-8 p.m. on multiple Wednesdays. Volunteers will assist in serving a meal to the hungry. Our first Wednesday at the Diner will take place on Sept. 14.
