Reminders, deadlines and events

* Young Shocker Professionals invite members and prospective members to a Brown Bag Lunch at noon today (Thursday, Sept. 15) at the Food Truck Plaza. We'll plan on meeting there to eat or going to the Grace Wilkie Annex conference room if the weather isn't good.

* Celebrate Hispanic Independence Day and the kick off to Hispanic Heritage Month from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 15) on the RSC east patio.

* WSU is committed to a learning, living and working environment that is safe and free of sex discrimination. Title IX is a federal law enacted in 1972 that prohibits sex discrimination in all university student services and academic programs. Sessions will cover information about Title IX from 2-3:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 15) in 319 RSC. Additional sessions are scheduled throughout the fall semester. Registration is available through myTraining.

* "Jokes that kill: The use of sardonic humor leading up to the French wars of religion" will be presented by University of Kansas professor Bruce Hayes, Department of French and Italian, from noon-2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 16) in Ablah Library.

* WSU Ventures is hosting Trademark Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, in the WIDGET Lab on the first floor of Devlin Hall. Trademark Tuesday, a collaboration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), is a question and answer session on trademarks.

* In follow-up to the roll-out of the strategic enrollment management plan for the university, several Q&A sessions and workshops are being planned during the year to assist faculty and staff on ways to grow enrollment. The first one is planned for 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, in 233 RSC. A light lunch will be provided. RSVP to jeanne.patton@wichita.edu.

* Proposals for the National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation solicitation are due to WSU's Office of Research on Friday, Sept. 30. This is a limited submission opportunity; WSU is only able to submit three proposals. The opportunity has been very popular in the past, so it is likely there will need to be an internal competition to determine which proposals will be submitted to the NSF. All interested parties should respond to proposals@wichita.edu with their intent to apply as soon as possible. For more information about the solicitation, go to http://www.wichita.edu/j/?5002
