* Songs Against Slavery, a nonprofit combating sex trafficking in the U.S., will host a benefit concert featuring SHEL, Grace Theisen and En Power and Light with WSU's Campus Ministries. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 27) at the RSC east patio. Tickets are free for students with student ID, $5 for faculty and staff and $15 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at http://www.songsagainstslavery.org.
* The Red Cross has an emergency need for blood donors to give now to help save patient lives from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 27) and Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the Shocker Hall Multipurpose Room. All blood types are urgently needed. To view available times and to schedule your donation appointment go to http://www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code Wichita State. Walk-ins are also welcome. Complete your pre-reading and health history questions online the day of the drive at http://www.redcrossblood.org/rapidpass to reduce your wait time by 15 minutes. Print or email the Rapid Pass barcode at the end of the questionnaire and bring it with you to the blood drive along with a valid form of ID. * All Shockers are invited to help wrap-up the Academic Convocation events by participating in a service project focused on fighting hunger. Wichita State has pledged to pack 8,000 meals as part of Numana Inc., an international hunger relief organization from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, in the RSC third floor Shirley Beggs Ballroom. * Do you know a deserving Shocker who should be recognized for personal or professional achievement, service to WSU or contributions to society? The WSU Alumni Association wants to hear about outstanding Shocker faculty (current or retired), staff, alumni and university friends. The nomination deadline is Monday, Oct. 3. * The first workshop in the Business Booster Series this fall will be "Business Pitching: Knowing the Essentials to Grab Attention," on Friday, Oct. 7. Register today before the seats fill up. * As a result of the classification and market study conducted by WSU and CBIZ, which was implemented in July, most "official" titles changed in Banner (our record-keeping system). You will recall that these titles are used to group like positions and are not visible to anyone other than Human Resources.
