Neal Allen, associate professor of political science, will give a Senior Wednesday talk, "The McCarthy Era," from 1:30-2:30 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, Oct. 12) at the downtown public library, 223 S. Main. The McCarthy Era from 1950-1957 was a tumultuous time in American politics, with distrust of communist ideas and the rooting out of those who supported socialistic ideals. Government intrusion into the lives of dissidents was mirrored in the themes of "Fahrenheit 451," first published in 1953. Allen provides an overview of this era and what lessons were learned.
