* Fangfang Wang from the University of Connecticut will present "Realized periodogram-based estimation of integrated volatility in the the present of market microstructure noise," at 3 p.m. today (Friday, Oct. 21) in 372 Jabara Hall. The presentation is part of the Lecture Series in the Mathematical Sciences. Join us for refreshments before the lecture at 2:30 p.m. in 353 Jabara Hall.
* Most campus roads will be closed to vehicle traffic from about 8:45-9:45 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 22) to facilitate the annual Pumpkin Run. If you have questions, call 978-3450.
* The WSU School of Art, Design and Creative Industries (ADCI) will host the Empty Bowls Chili Cook-Off from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 22) in Henrion Hall. The chili cook-off is the culminating event for the Empty Bowls Wichita project and a major fundraiser for the Kansas Food Bank. Admission is $20 for the general public and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the door. Admission includes one ceramic bowl and chili.
* Legendary American bass opera performer Samuel Ramey and world-renowned collaborative pianist Warren Jones will team up for a joint recital at Wichita State University to celebrate American music. The Connoisseur Series event begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, in Miller Concert Hall. Go to http://www.wichita.edu/fineartsboxoffice for tickets or call 978-3233. * La Compagnie Caravague will perform the classic one-act play "Huis Clos," by Sartre at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, in the CAC Theater. Admission is free.
* The Office of Undergraduate Admissions invites faculty and staff to participate as observers at this year's Distinguished Scholarship Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 19. Observers are needed for two sessions. If you volunteer for the morning session, the time commitment is 7:30 a.m.-noon. In the afternoon, the time commitment would be about 1-5:30 p.m. Refreshments are included, as well as a short training session.
