Fairmount Park offers a futsal court

Wichita Park & Recreation officials will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, to celebrate a renovation project at Fairmount Park, 1647 N. Yale Blvd. A tennis court has been renovated, converting half of the court into a futsal court. Futsal is a game similar to soccer but played with a smaller ball and on a smaller outdoor playing surface. Fairmount is located near WSU, which is involved with efforts to improve the park area. The futsal court is a public facility that will attract students. "We are very excited to provide the city with the first futsal court and strengthen our partnership with Wichita State University," said Troy Houtman, director of Park & Recreation. "Our partnership was ideal as their international student population now has the opportunity for recreational activities."
