Faculty to be recognized for research, teaching and creative activity

Eight Wichita State faculty members are being honored during the 2009 University Faculty Awards ceremony Tuesday, May 12. The faculty awards will be presented as part of the spring general faculty meeting at 2:30 p.m. in the RSC ballroom. The honorees were chosen for setting the gold standard for teaching, research and creative activities at WSU.

There will be a reception at 2:30 p.m. with light refreshments to meet and greet the honorees. The faculty awards ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. Jill Docking, Kansas Board of Regents, will make comments and present awards. The faculty general meeting will be held immediately following the awards ceremony. All activities will be in the RSC Ballroom.

The 2009 honorees are:

Community Research: Michael Jorgensen, Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering

Excellence in Creative Activity: Darren DeFrain, Department of English

Excellence in Research: Alex Chaparro, Department of Psychology

Academy for Effective Teaching: M. Edwin Sawan, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Young Faculty Scholar: Anthony DiLollo, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders

Leadership in the Advancement of Teaching: LaDonna Hale, Department of Physician Assistant

Excellence in Teaching: Amy Drassen Ham, Department of Public Health Sciences and Richard LeCompte, Department of Finance, Real Estate and Decision Sciences
