Shocker Neighborhood Coalition seeks input from Fairmount community in neighborhood-wide survey

Wichita State University's Shocker Neighborhood Coalition (SNC) is conducting a door-to-door survey in Fairmount neighborhood to better understand the needs of the residents. Surveying started the week of Nov. 21, with plans to reach all 800 homes in the neighborhood.

The Public Policy and Management Center at the Hugo Wall School of Public Affairs at Wichita State received a Community Engagement Initiative grant from the Kansas Health Foundation in 2015 to engage citizens in the Fairmount community in addressing health, social and quality of life issues.

The citizen survey is a crucial part of the SNC's overall community engagement efforts. Since its creation, the coalition has held several dialogues with community stakeholders, implemented a porch light adoption program, hosted community clean-up projects and this month celebrated the opening of Wichita's first futsal court in Fairmount Park.

The survey will combine these efforts with community opinion to identify key issues and assets that will guide future neighborhood development. The survey will also serve as a baseline by which to measure progress in the coming years.
