Werner Golling named VP for Finance and Administration at Wichita State University

Werner Golling has been named vice president for Finance and Administration at Wichita State University, effective Jan. 8, 2017.

Golling will assume the position held by Mary Herrin, who is retiring after 43 years of WSU service. She has been vice president and chief financial officer since January 2008.

Golling has served as vice president for Administration and Finance at Emporia State University since 2014 with many of the same areas of responsibility as those he'll have at WSU, including oversight of all financial, facilities, public safety and human resources matters.

"We were fortunate to be able to hire an experienced chief financial officer from within the Kansas Regents system," said WSU President John Bardo, who announced Golling's appointment. "Werner Golling brings the reputation as a skilled leader who works well with staff, faculty colleagues and students."

Bardo said it's a bonus that Werner also served as chief financial officer of a biological research and manufacturing company that worked closely with a university on innovation.

"He'll be a great contributor to conversations about the increasing role of funded research in the university," Bardo said.

From 2009-2014, Golling was chief financial officer and human resources director at Aldevron, a private company in the biotechnology field.

Prior to that, he served as treasurer and vice president for business affairs / vice president for operations at Concordia College from 2002-2008.

"I have great respect and admiration for Wichita State University, its leadership team, faculty, staff and students," said Golling. "I appreciate WSU's mission, commitment to students and academic quality, and its unique applied learning / economic development focus. It is an honor to be selected for this position and to follow in the footsteps of the highly regarded Mary Herrin. While I am very grateful for the rewarding experience and my wonderful colleagues at Emporia State, I am looking forward to becoming a Shocker."

Golling earned a bachelor's in management from Shippensburg University and a master's in business administration from Boston University.
