2017 updated Kansas Employment Forecast released
In 2017, Kansas total nonfarm employment is expected to increase by 13,669 jobs, which implies the employment growth rate is anticipated to be 1 percent.
Both the service (11,000 jobs) and trade, transportation and utilities (1,500 jobs) sectors are expected to lead the growth in the state in 2017, with growth rates of 1.8 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively. The production sectors are projected to add 356 jobs, for 0.2 percent growth. Whereas, the government sector is projected to remain constant, growing by 0.1 percent.
"Although the Kansas economy has taken a couple of body blows to agriculture and oil, two of our core economic drivers, the state will likely net out to zero growth by the end of 2016," says CEDBR Director Jeremy Hill. "The stronger U.S. economic growth will likely help the state last at least one more round of growth in the economic boxing ring before the next recession hits."
