Five WSU alums win 2017 Kansas Horizon Awards

Five WSU College of Education alumni are recipients of 2017 Kansas Horizon Awards. The Kansas Horizon Award recognizes exemplary first-year teachers in elementary and secondary classrooms who perform in a way that distinguishes them as outstanding.

- Jill Bajaj, a mathematics teacher at Robinson Middle School, Wichita USD 259
- Jillian Brock, a special education instructor at Community Elementary, Coffeyville USD 445
- Oliva Burbach, a fourth grade teacher at Lawrence Elementary, Wichita USD 259
- Mallory Keefe, a kindergarten teacher at Jefferson Elementary, El Dorado USD 490
- Alexis Schirmer, a fourth grade teacher at Vermillion Elementary, Maize USD 266

Thirty-two teachers around the state were selected from elementary and secondary schools. They will be recognized for their achievements at the 2017 Kansas Exemplary Educators Network, a group of exemplary educators who are leaders in the improvement of schools, student performance and the education profession.
