Women sought for breast cancer treatment options study

Victoria Shaffer, assistant professor in the psychology department, was awarded $99,999 by the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making to examine the effectiveness of informational videos about breast cancer treatment options designed to improve breast cancer treatment decisions. Two hundred women from the Wichita area will be recruited in 2009 to participate in the two-hour study; each participant will be paid $100.

Women selected to participate will watch an informational video about breast cancer treatment options, make a hypothetical treatment decision, describe their decision making process, and answer a series of questions about themselves. Women interested in participating should visit http://www.wichita.edu/psychology/breastcancerstudy to complete a screening questionnaire.
