Reminders, deadlines and events

* WSU School of Art, Design and Creative Industries faculty will discuss their experiences in Latin America engaging at the local level to explore ideas that have global resonance through international biennials, marginal economies and interrelated experiences in cultural traditions. A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 2) followed by a program at 6 p.m. at the Ulrich Museum. Admission is free.

* Join us for an evening of fun with Daniel James' comedy-hypnosis show at 7 p.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 2) in the CAC Theater, where laughter is the best medicine. Admission is free to WSU students with Shocker ID, $3 faculty/staff; $5 general admission and $1 for kids 12 and under. Cash and check only.

* The WSU School of Music will host a faculty recital by Betul Soykan, professor of violin. The event, "From War to Peace," will begin at 7:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 2) in Wiedemann Hall, featuring Soykan and guest pianist Juan Andrade performing Holocaust inspired sonatas by Ferguson, Messiaen and Prokofiev. Admission is free.

* Nominations are being sought for Wichita State's 2017 Senior Honor Men and Women awards. This is one of the most prestigious honors a student can receive at WSU. Up to five men and five women are chosen for this honor each year. To review the eligibility requirements and application process, go to http://www.wichita.edu/seniorhonor. Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6.

* The Phenomenal Women Awards recognize women for their accomplishments and contributions to the Wichita State community and society. Please nominate females who have made a difference in your life at WSU by Friday, Feb. 10. * Kevin Hines, award-winning global speaker, bestselling author, documentary filmmaker, survivor of suicide and suicide prevention and mental health advocate will give a talk at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, in 301 RSC. * All faculty and instructors are invited to discuss the state of diversity in the WSU curriculum with Provost Tony Vizzini at a lunch from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in 233 RSC. Vizzini would like to hear your ideas on such questions as what are the diversity-related gaps that exist in our current course offerings?
