Celebrate National Public Health Week

The Department of Public Health Sciences graduating senior class is celebrating National Public Health Week (NPHW) today (Monday, April 3) to Sunday, April 9. As part of our celebration, we invite Shockers to learn how public health policies and programs keep our community healthy every day. Our first initiative is to promote public health at Wichita State through a social media campaign.

1. Look for our red "This Is Public Health" stickers all over Ahlberg Hall to learn more about how Public Health keeps you healthy every day.

2. Take selfies when you are engaging in good public health activities, like when using the stairs, eating a healthy breakfast, washing your hands, using your seat belt, etc..

3. Post your pictures on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) from now through Saturday, April 8, using the hashtag #ThisIsPublicHealthWSU

4. Be automatically entered for a chance to win great prizes!*

Our second initiative in celebration of NPHW is to increase Shockers' mental health awareness through the "Words for Wellness" module found on Blackboard. College is demanding and we want to help students address challenges by highlighting available campus resources and access to mental health care. For more information about NPHW or these initiatives contact Amy Drassen Ham by email at amy.ham@wichita.edu or by telephone at 978-5644.

* Winners will be selected daily by the Health Services Management and Community Development (HMSCD) Capstone class and announced through social media the week of April 10. Prizes will be available in Ahlberg Hall. Capstone students and Public Health Sciences faculty and staff may post using the hashtag, but are not eligible to win.
