Shockerville: An online social network

Shockerville is an online social network exclusively for students newly admitted to Wichita State for the summer or fall 2009 semester. The site was launched in January. The purpose of this network is to connect new incoming students with each other and student ambassadors before they step foot on campus. Three key features of the site are the blog function, the announcement and the key reminders. If you or your department would like to submit items to be included in these areas, contact Cassie Keefer at cassie.keefer@wichita.edu or 978-3168. Items will be considered on an individual basis.

As you are working with incoming students, feel free to encourage them to log into their Shockerville account. Summer and fall 2009 incoming students will be invited to remain active on the site until early in the fall semester, at which time residents of this online community will be asked to build relationships offline or on other social networking sites. Shockerville will then be taken offline, be updated and relaunched to the summer and fall 2010 incoming class in January 2010.
