Building Effective Teams, a presession management class taught by Diane Yoder, was challenged to complete a service/learning project. The 29 students were asked to apply course concepts in team building to a competitive challenge of raising as many food and cash donations as possible for local nonprofit agencies -- Catholic Charities, InterFaith Ministries, Wichita Children's Home, Kansas Food Bank, Bread of Life and The Lord's Diner. In nine days, six teams of students gathered more than 3,300 pounds of food and $1,100 in cash donations. "I'm so very proud of them and their contribution to the community, and I feel they should be commended for their hard work," said Yoder.
