Graduate teaching assistantships, graduate research assistantships and graduate tuition waivers are considered financial aid resources because they contribute to meeting a student's educational expenses. Students receiving financial aid cannot exceed the cost of attendance (Financial Aid Budget) with scholarships, tuition waivers, federal aid and / or assistantship resources. To prevent over-awarding financial aid, our office encourages departments to process assistantships and tuition waivers as early as possible before the start of each term so that that these resources can be accounted for in each student's award offer. Additionally, if your students have questions about how their assistantship or tuition waiver may affect their financial aid, encourage them to contact the Office of Financial Aid.
