TRIO celebrates 25 years at WSU

This summer the TRIO Upward Bound Math Science (UBMS) program celebrates its 25th year at Wichita State. More than 50 Kansas high school students will participate in the Annual Research Symposium and Science Fair at WSU tomorrow (Friday, July 14). The symposium and the science fair will represent several scientific disciplines, such as chemistry, food science, anatomy and physiology, electrical engineering, physics and psychology. The Research Symposium will run from 9-10:40 a.m. in 209 Hubbard Hall, and the Science Fair will follow from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Hubbard Hall's center and south lobbies.

A panel of judges will evaluate student projects and determine scores based on the strength of the presentation and comprehension of the subject matter. Recognition will be given to those outstanding participants and top-placing student scientists at the Upward Bound Math Science (UBMS) Annual Awards Banquet on Wednesday, July 19.

The TRIO UBMS Center is federally funded and hosted by Wichita State University. With the support of WSU and the cooperation of schools throughout Kansas, the program is designed to serve 74 high school students who have an interest in the STEM fields -- medicine, science, technology, engineering and math and those who have the potential to be the first in their family to attend college to earn a bachelor degree.

With the support of Wichita State, the UBMS Center provides programs year round. For more information, go to http://wichita.edu/ubms or call 978-3316.
