Campus visitor vs. campus goose? Campus visitor vs. campus goose?

In late spring, Gabrielle Bozarth, her mom and grandma drove up from Oklahoma for a campus visit. They had just completed their tour and were heading back to the admissions office for their final appointment. On the way back they unknowingly got a little too close to a goose nest that was on top of one of the hay sculptures.

This is where their unusual story begins -- the goose flew down and attacked Gabi and her family. They finally found their way back to the Marcus Welcome Center, but not unharmed. Gabi's grandma had two cuts on her head from the goose, which needed attention from Student Health Services.

Despite their goose encounter, this family was so impressed by the visit and Wichita State, that Gabi brought her brother and dad to campus for a second visit just a few weeks ago. The Bozarth family admits they tell their story to anyone who will listen, and now they get a good laugh about it.

Chad Steinkamp, assistant director of admissions, gave Gabi and her family a personal tour on their second visit. Following their visit, Chad received an email from Gabi stating, "I didn't think it was possible, but I loved the campus even more the second time!" Gabi is a high school senior, so she will be a new Shocker in fall 2018.
