Upcoming Crossroads programming on KMUW

Crossroads airs at 7 p.m. Sundays on KMUW 89.1. It also airs at 5 a.m., 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. on KMUW-HD2. Crossroads is KMUW's contemporary blues and soul show, hosted by Chris Heim, from the post-war era to the present, from classic recordings to new releases, and from mainstream sounds to some diverse and wide-ranging artists and recordings with roots in the blues.

July 5 -- This Sunday Crossroads features music from Howlin' Wolf guitarist Hubert Sumlin, the first family of New Orleans music -- the Neville Brothers, and R&B legend and recent Blues Awards "Soul Blues Female Artist of the Year" award winner Etta James.

July 12 -- On the next Crossroads, it's music from artists with concerts in the region this week, a birthday celebration for soulful jazz organist Big John Patton, new music from Cyril Neville, Webb Wilder, Jean Shy and Little Milton's nephew, Charles Wilson, plus classics from Louis Jordan and Muddy Waters.

July 19 -- On the next Crossroads, we remember Buston Benton, one of the lesser known but influential blues figures on the Chicago blues scene, on his birthday -- plus we go back for some classic soul from Sam & Dave and the Impressions and some classic boogie-woogie from piano master Albert Ammons, and highlight the latest from Eddie C. Campbell and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

July 26 -- Buddy Guy's birthday is just around the corner and Crossroads celebrates with the special, "Buddy Guy: Can't Quit the Blues," featuring music from throughout the legendary bluesman's lengthy career and an interview with Guy himself talking about his life and his music.
