* Shocker Blast, the newsletter for WSU students, will resume on Friday, Aug. 18, prior to classes starting on Monday, Aug. 21. Shocker Blast runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the semester except for holidays, fall break or the holiday shutdown. Information applicable to students should be submitted to shockerblast@wichita.edu. Questions? Contact Joe Kleinsasser at joe.kleinsasser@wichita.edu.
* On Aug. 21, a total solar eclipse will be visible to millions of Americans as it sweeps a narrow path across parts of the entire country. The U.S. Postal Service anticipates this rare event with a stamp celebrating the majesty of total solar eclipses (16 stamps per sheet). The Total Eclipse of the Sun stamp is the first U.S. stamp to use thermochromic ink, which reacts to the heat of your touch. Placing your finger over the black disc on the stamp causes the ink to change from black to clear to reveal an underlying image of the moon. The image reverts back to the black disc once it cools. The back of the stamp pane shows a map of the eclipse path. Stop by the campus post office if you want to purchase a sheet of these stamps.
* Promote your events by having them posted on the university calendar. It's as easy as going to http://www.wichita.edu/thisis/calendar/events.asp and clicking on "submit event."
