* The 2017 fall semester Faculty and Staff Kickoff will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, in the Shirley Beggs Ballroom, RSC. Hear from President Bardo about the issues and opportunities the university is facing this new academic year. Following the formal session, you're invited to share ideas and socialize while enjoying snacks. For those unable to attend, the event will be live streamed. Information on how to watch the event will be provided when it's available.

* Friends, family and colleagues or George Platt invite you to join in a reception to celebrate his life and contributions to Wichita State University from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at Corbin Education Center. The event will include drinks and hors d'oeuvres, including George's favorite, baklava from N & J Cafe. Your RSVP is requested at http://www.wichita.edu/j/?5706

* Clash of the Colleges 2017 will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, in Cessna Stadium. This annual event hosted by First-Year Programs and Campus Recreation includes inflatables, relay races, water games, team sports and competition between academic colleges to determine who rules the school. Sign up by Wednesday, Aug. 16, to volunteer with this dynamic campus tradition at http://www.wichita.edu/ClashVolunteer. Volunteers will be provided with an event T-shirt and refreshments on the day of the event. Training for event staff and volunteers will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, and 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24. All volunteers are required to attend one of these trainings in order to participate. * Promote your events by having them posted on the university calendar. It's as easy as going to http://www.wichita.edu/thisis/calendar/events.asp and clicking on "submit event."

* Shocker Blast, the newsletter for WSU students, will resume on Friday, Aug. 18, prior to classes starting on Monday, Aug. 21. Shocker Blast runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the semester except for holidays, fall break or the holiday shutdown.
