YMCA membership information provided to students
-----
You may have already heard that WSU and the Greater Wichita YMCA have partnered to offer new benefits to fee-paying Wichita State students. Starting Monday, Aug. 21, you now receive a single adult membership to all nine YMCA locations included as part of your student activity fee.
Your Y membership will be effective as long as you are enrolled and paying student fees at WSU. Just bring your Shocker ID to the YMCA front desk to get started.
But what if you already have a Y membership on your own or through your family? And how do you access your membership?
You will be receiving a detailed email from the YMCA with personalized information to help guide you. Watch your Shocker inbox. We want this process to be easy and for you to get started enjoying the benefits the Y has to offer.
For more information, you can go to www.ymcawichita.org/wsu. We also have a list of frequently asked questions at wichita.edu/ymca. Any other questions that aren't addressed there can be sent directly to wsuy@ymcawichita.org.
What about student fees?
There has been a lot of confusion about the recent fee changes and how they might relate to a YMCA on the WSU campus. So hopefully this will help clear things up:
As always, your student activity fee covers all aspects associated with student life, including but not limited to access to the Student Health Services, Campus Recreation services, student activities, athletic events, Counseling and Testing Center, Fine Arts events, Child Development Center reduced rates for students, the Sunflower, Student Government Association and starting Aug. 21, your membership to nine Wichita Area YMCA locations. And don't forget the Heskett Center is still available for on-campus fitness and recreation needs.
No student money -- whether tuition or fees -- will go toward the construction of the WSU YMCA. The money you're paying now in student activity fees will go toward continually growing and improving health and wellness services for all students, which includes: Student Health Services; Counseling and Testing Center; Office of Disability Services; Campus Recreation; and the Prevention Services Advisory Board.
My door is always open, and I welcome dialogue back and forth with the great students at Wichita State.
