* Join the WSU College of Health Professions for a ribbon cutting and reception today (Thursday, Aug. 31) at WSU Old Town, 213 N. Mead. The program begins at 3 p.m. with remarks and ribbon cutting. Refreshments and tours will be held immediately following the program.

* The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) invites you to an open house from 2-3:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Aug. 31) in 208 RSC.

* The 13th Amendment to the Constitution abolished slavery in the United States. The film "13th" examines the way that America's prison system has become another form of slavery for American minority populations. The film screening, hosted by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Wichita Public Libraries, will be held at 7:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Aug. 31) in the CAC Theater.

* Planning is underway for Academic Convocation at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in Wilner Auditorium. Part of the program will contain a video of students engaged in applied learning. We are requesting faculty to submit photos of students from your courses who are participating in applied learning. Please submit your photos with an explanation of the course / activity to sara.clifton@wichita.edu by tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 1). * The WSU Office of Research invites you to its first Research Workshop of this academic year. Plan to attend "The Anatomy of a Patent" workshop from noon-1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, in 405 Jardine Hall. The workshop will be a brown bag event, so bring your lunch -- tea, water and dessert will be provided. * The Office of Human Resources (HR) has announced an update in the area of benefits administration. We have developed a centralized Total Rewards team, designed to efficiently and effectively serve our employees. For future communications, please email totalrewards@wichita.edu with general questions and concerns related to topics such as health insurance, retirement, tuition assistance, workers compensation, Fair Labor Standards (FLSA) and Family Medical Leave (FMLA), etc.

* All faculty, administrative and unclassified staff women and wives are invited to join WSU Women's Association. Annual dues are $15. The first meeting and annual event will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the home of President and Mrs. Bardo.
