Reminders, deadlines and events

* WSU faculty and staff have the opportunity to take a free online professional development course if enrolled by Friday, Sept. 15. Badge programs (http://www.wichita.edu/badges) are designed for working professionals who want to continue learning new skills and technologies to keep up with the needs of employers. The self-directed online courses allow students to go at their own pace each semester. Go to http://www.wichita.edu/j/?5833 for more information.

* The State of Kansas is offering a free Flu Shot Clinic for WSU employees and their spouses (ages 18-65) enrolled in the State Employee Health Plan (SEHP) on Wednesday, Sept. 13, in 266 RSC. These flu shots are covered by the health plan and your Caremark / State ID number is required. For more information and to register for your flu shot, go to http://www.wichita.edu/j/?5808.

* You're invited to the Student Involvement Open House from 4-6 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 5) in 216 RSC. Take a tour, meet the staff and enjoy snacks and games.

* William Groutas received an Effective Teaching Award in 2016. He is scheduled to present a talk on teaching titled "A Short Story" at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, in 203 RSC 203 (Lancelot Room). All faculty are invited to attend.

* An option is available that will eliminate using personal funds for official university business travel. It's called an iTravel Business Procurement Card. This card will allow you to use a university-provided VISA card to pay for non-per diem related business travel costs. * The WSU Office of Research invites you to its first Research Workshop of this academic year. Plan to attend "The Anatomy of a Patent" workshop from noon-1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, in 405 Jardine Hall. The workshop will be a brown bag event, so bring your lunch -- tea, water and dessert will be provided. * All faculty, administrative and unclassified staff women and wives are invited to join WSU Women's Association. Annual dues are $15. The first meeting and annual event will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the home of President and Mrs. Bardo.
