Sara Morris, who has spent 32 years in law enforcement in jobs ranging from Wichita Police homicide detective to WSU chief, is retiring Sept. 29.

In four years as chief, Morris has led the expansion of the University Police Department's personnel, patrol area, training, equipment and philosophy. Under Morris, the department has increased its visibility and interaction with students and visitors and undertaken significant training for university personnel to deal with crisis situations.

Chief Morris joined the University Police Department as a captain in 2005 and was promoted to chief in 2013.

Morris said it has been an honor to have served alongside the dedicated members of the University Police Department and to have been a part of the WSU community.
