Reminders, deadlines and events

* The Housing and Residence Life central office will be closed today (Friday, Oct. 13) because of the office relocation from Fairmount Commons to The Flats. Staff will continue to be available at the front desks of both Shocker Hall and The Flats at WSU to assist student inquiries as needed. We apologize for any inconvenience, and will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16.

* WSU Ventures at Wichita State University is pleased to announce the recipients of its annual Innovation Awards, which will be presented at a university-wide recognition ceremony at 3 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 24, in Shirley Beggs Ballroom. * Participate in Shocktoberfest's annual Banner competition. Your organization can decorate a banner using Shocker Pride and it will be hung around campus during this year's Shocktoberfest week, Oct. 22-28. Banners are $60 and can be purchased in Student Involvement, 216 RSC. Designs must be pre-approved and turned in by today (Friday, Oct. 13). * The No. 22 Wichita State volleyball team returns home this weekend for two matches in Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers (14-3, 6-0) take on SMU (12-5, 6-0) at 7 p.m. today (Friday, Oct. 13) in a battle for first place in The American. It is Jam the Gym night and all tickets are Buy 1-Get 1 Free. The Shockers renew their rivalry with Tulsa in the Havoc in the Heartland series at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15. For tickets, call 978-FANS (3267). Admission is free for students with a WSU ID.

* Students are invited to hear Phyllis Bennis speak at the 72nd United National Anniversary Banquet on Saturday, Oct. 21, sponsored by the Global Learning Center of Wichita. * Come celebrate your academics this Shocktoberfest with your college dean and free food at Dine with the Deans from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, on the second floor, RSC. This is a great event to meet and visit with the dean of your college, grab breakfast and be entered into a raffle! Join Student Involvement this Shocktoberfest at Dine with the Deans.

* WSU Fire / Safety and contractors will do annual fire alarm testing and inspections of all building fire alarm systems now through November. Alarms and strobe lights may be activated for short periods of time during this testing in all areas of campus buildings.

* Join Spectrum: LGBTQ and Allies on Saturday, Nov. 4, for a Royal Banquet. We will celebrate the work of our past, present and future members with guest speaker Ash Wickell, followed by Queen's Bingo with host Divinity Masters. Tickets can be purchased in the Bookstore or online until Tuesday, Oct. 31.

* Student Activities Council is hosting its annual Arts & Crafts Fair from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 14-15, in the RSC. WSU students have the opportunity to sell original artwork, designs and handmade items and may register as individuals or with a group. Registration for the event for students and student groups is $27, and includes table space for two days and marketing. If you participate, you must have staffing both days for the entire time.
