* M'Balia Thomas, assistant professor in KU's School of Education, will present her "Space, Place, & Race in Antoine Dodson's 'Bed Intruder:' A Stylistic Analysis" at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 18) in 208 Hubbard Hall. The talk is part of the Language and Linguistics Colloquium Series.

* Campus departments -- bring out your creative side and decorate your door in the annual door decorating contest for Shocktoberfest 2017. Decorate your door using your best Shocker Pride and register at http://www.wichita.edu/shocktoberfest by tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 19). Decorations should stay up for the week of Oct. 22. * Grading for fall 2017 first eight-week courses is open. Faculty can access the Banner 9 grading form via the Teach / Advise tab in the myWSU portal. Grades for any class officially ending by Saturday, Oct. 14, can be entered during this grading period. Grades are due by 10 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 19). Questions about grading can be directed to the Office of the Registrar at 978-3090.

* Wage & Hour Training is being provided from 3-4:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 19) in 231 Hubbard Hall. This highly specialized training is designed for timekeepers, admins and supervisors who deal with timekeeping issues, and has been updated to include new guidance. Limited seating is available. * Faculty artist Carmen Lemoine, professor of flute and principal flute of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, appears as soloist with the WSU Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 19) in Miller Concert Hall. * Join the Council for University Women (CUW) from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, for a tasting of delicious wines, paired with unique hors d'oeuvres. Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and bid on purses at the silent auction. All auction proceeds benefit the CUW scholarship fund. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available. * The Office of Academic Affairs and Office for Workforce, Professional and Community Education are hosting a webinar on "Microcredentialing and Digital Badges" from 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, in 262 RSC. The webinar is free and open to the campus community.

* A Graduate School Professional Development event Mastering Literature Reviews, co-sponsored by Ablah Library, will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, in 266 RSC. Review the steps for conducting comprehensive research and synthesizing perspectives to effectively presenting your findings.
