* The Research Compliance Office will hold a come-and-go open lab from 9-11 a.m. today (Wednesday Oct. 18) in 215 Devlin Hall Innovation Hub. This is an open lab and no registration is required.

* M'Balia Thomas, assistant professor in KU's School of Education, will present her "Space, Place, & Race in Antoine Dodson's 'Bed Intruder:' A Stylistic Analysis" at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 18) in 208 Hubbard Hall. The talk is part of the Language and Linguistics Colloquium Series.

* Want to volunteer at agencies serving food? Community Service Board is hosting a free food handler's safety class from 6-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 18) in 142 RSC. Register at http://bit.ly/2yjfyZr

* Understanding the day-to-day reality of poverty is important. Join Community Service Board (CSB) and participate in a poverty simulation, role-playing the lives of low-income families from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in Marcus Welcome Center. Sign up at http://bit.ly/2wLIK6L

* A Graduate School professional development event Mastering Literature Reviews from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, in 266 RSC, is co-sponsored by Ablah Library. Review the steps from conducting comprehensive research and synthesizing perspectives to effectively presenting your findings. * Come celebrate your academics this Shocktoberfest with your college dean and free food at Dine with the Deans from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, on the second floor, RSC. This is a great event to meet and visit with the dean of your college, grab breakfast and be entered into a raffle! Join Student Involvement this Shocktoberfest at Dine with the Deans.

* WSU Fire / Safety and contractors will do annual fire alarm testing and inspections of all building fire alarm systems now through November. Alarms and strobe lights may be activated for short periods of time during this testing in all areas of campus buildings.

* Student Activities Council is hosting its annual Arts & Crafts Fair from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 14-15, in the RSC. WSU students have the opportunity to sell original artwork, designs and handmade items and may register as individuals or with a group. Registration for the event for students and student groups is $27, and includes table space for two days and marketing. If you participate, you must have staffing both days for the entire time.
