Student Code of Conduct update

The Student Code of Conduct has been updated in order to reflect changes to institutional philosophy regarding student behavior, staffing and organizational changes within the university; developments in best practices in the field of student conduct; and increased federal mandates and scrutiny of institutional processes. Please make sure to review this important information online. The changes to these policies and procedures include:

- A more clearly defined jurisdiction statement articulates when someone is considered a student and responsible for behavior that violates the Code.

- A Responsible Action Protocol has been added to the policy to encourage students to make safe choices on behalf of themselves and their peers with respect to the need for medical attention related to use of alcohol or drugs. This policy ensures compliance with the Kansas Lifeline 911 law (alcohol only) and adds amnesty for personal use of drugs if there is a medical emergency and proper response steps are taken.

- More clearly defines how the Code intersects with other policies and moves resolution of behaviors covered by other policies to the proper jurisdiction and department.

- The revised Code provides more clearly defined behavioral expectations and a more comprehensive list of outcomes and consequences. There are separate sections for individual students and student groups or organizations.
