Alternative Spring Break 2018 - Informational meetings and applications

Alternative Spring Break will expose WSU students to complex social and cultural issues through community visits, experiential learning, direct service, group discussion, common readings, and reflection activities. This trip and connected course explore social justice issues related to the service focus of the immersive service trip. A required three-credit hour course will be offered in the spring 2018 semester. The next information meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. today (Friday, Oct. 20) in 245 RSC.

This year we will offer two different trips dedicated to service-learning with two different focuses. The first trip will be headed to Washington D.C. exploring hunger and homeless in our nation's capital. The second trip will be traveling to Catalina Island, California, focusing on human impact on the environment.

Both trips will occur during WSU's spring break March 18-25, 2018. Applications are available at http://www.wichita.edu/altbreak and three informational meetings will be offered. All three meetings will cover the same content of trip costs, logistics, details of the required course, fundraising, application and timeline will be discussed. If you are unable to attend a meeting, questions can be directed to Chelsea Redger, assistant director, Student Involvement, at chelsea.redger@wichita.edu.
