Tobacco Quit Kits to be provided free for students

Senior capstone students in the Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) are supporting the recently implemented Tobacco-Free Campus Policy at WSU by providing tobacco Quit Kits to students seeking cessation services through WSU Student Health Services. Quit Kits contain tools to support efforts to stop using tobacco and are free for students beginning Monday, Nov. 6, in honor of College of Health Professions Week.

Students, faculty and staff members also may purchase over-the-counter nicotine replacement gum and lozenges through Student Health Services. To schedule a tobacco cessation appointment or learn more about purchasing tobacco cessation products, contact WSU Student Health Services at 978-3620.

Quit Kits are part of the Tobacco-Free Campus Ambassador program implemented by PHS students. Ambassadors aim to help Shockers learn about the new campus policy while educating tobacco users about campus-based services to help them quit.

PHS students provided more than 250 hours of on-the-ground campus tobacco use monitoring, while also developing and testing a system for reporting noncompliance. For more information about the Tobacco Free Campus Policy or to volunteer to be an ambassador, go to http://www.wichita.edu/tobaccofree
