Although the WSU Leading Economic Indicators Index has been in a predominantly downward trend for the 12 months ending in May, its total decline has been only 3.8 percent compared to the previous 12 months, according to WSU's Center for Economic Development and Business Resarch. The May Index does have a bright side. All nine index indicators showed positive movement from April, except Kansas initial unemployment claims and the number of hours worked in manufacturing.
