English Department Speaker Series to host research talk on Nov. 16

The English Department Speaker Series is hosting a research talk by Michael Behrens at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in 258 RSC. His talk will focus on the work of Catharine Trotter Cockburn and is titled "Conversion and Courtship in the Early Enlightenment." Behrens received his doctorate from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and is an assistant professor of English at Emporia State University. He specializes in British literature of the early Modern and Restoration and 18th century periods. His work explores the intersection of religion and secularism in the literature of the long eighteenth century. Most recently, he has published on Sarah Fielding and sentimentalism (forthcoming in Studies in English Literature).
