Help is available to commit to healthy, tobacco-free lives

The Great American Smokeout tomorrow (Thursday, Nov. 16) is an opportunity for everyone to commit to healthy, tobacco-free lives -- not just for a day, but year round. We are here to support you! When WSU became a tobacco-free campus on July 1, we wanted to make sure that support is always available to tobacco users who are part of our campus community.

Students can access individual or group counseling through the Counseling & Testing Center. Low-cost nicotine replacement therapy (gum or lozenges) are available at Student Health Services -- no appointment necessary! Also for a short time, Student Health Services has free quitkits available, thanks to a senior Capstone class in the Department of Public Health Sciences. Quitkits allow tobacco users to try different cessation aids, such as gum, mints and suckers to see what helps ease cravings. Coupons for the cessation medication, Chantix, are also included (prescription required). Students can also call 1-800-QUIT-NOW for free counseling 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except major holidays.
