Introducing Shocker Proud

Wichita State desires to create a strong community wherein all who serve and are served by the university have an exceptional experience. One element to creating this is to have a set of service standards all in the community exhibit. In September, 2017, the university embarked on the development of these standards.

TIMELINE
September 2017
Focus groups representing all constituents (faculty, staff and students) were conducted. One hundred sixty faculty, staff and students participated in the focus groups with representation from nearly every university division and department. Attendees participated in a 30-minute exercise to generate ideas for service standards.

October 2017
Feedback was consolidated from all focus sessions and main themes emerged. We then sought additional input on how we want to express our service standards. Consensus supported having a more spirited format, but to also include behaviors that exhibit the standards.

November 2017
The themes were presented to the Strategic Enrollment Management team and the Student Affairs Advisory Board to receive input.

December 2017
The concept was shared with all affiliates for partnership in supporting and promoting the standards throughout all WSU. The WSU Foundation, RSC and WATC / Wichita Tech have committed to adopt the standards.

January 2018
WSU service standards were approved by president's executive team.

All faculty and staff are a part of the WSU community and need to participate in activating these standards into our culture. The Service Standards will be implemented into the 2018-19 USS and UP nonteaching performance evaluation to replace the current Customer Focus competency. The evaluation will launch in February 2018.

New student focused training incorporating the service standards will be launched in spring 2018 to areas of the university with direct student contact.
