WSU Police Department announces promotion of two officers to sergeant

Officers Christopher Tener and Michael Colvin will be promoted to the position of sergeant in the Wichita State University Police Department, effective Sunday, Jan. 28. Their selections were based on a competitive process including an oral interview board, interactive problem solving and a written exam. Members of the university community assisted in assessing all the candidates who took part in the testing process.

Tener has been with the WSU Police Department about three-and-a-half years. Just after graduating from Wichita public schools in 1999, he joined the Air Force. Still active in the Kansas Air National Guard, his assignment is the military equivalent of law enforcement, where his rank is that of Master Sergeant.

Colvin has been with the police department just more than 14 years. He has worked as a dispatcher, traffic officer and police officer for the agency before being promoted to sergeant. He is married and has three daughters. Currently working on his degree, he is looking forward to his new supervisory role as sergeant with the WSU Police Department.
