Videoconferencing at the MRC can reduce travel, save money

WSU's Media Resources Center is seeing an increased use of videoconferencing as a way to reduce travel time and energy. Last week, the Governor's H1N1 Pandemic Summit originated in Topeka and was transmitted to 800 people in six sites across Kansas, including 125 people at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex. The MRC staff assembled the large screens and projectors and tested the signal prior to the summit.

Earlier in the summer, the Kansas Council on Economic Education partnered with the Kansas State Department of Education to hold a two-day workshop, introducing K-12 teachers to new teaching techniques. About 125 teachers at the six Regents institutions collaborated with two-way interactive audio and video, facilitated by the core video infrastructure provided on the Kan-ed network. The cost savings and the reduction of carbon emissions were substantial.

Faculty and staff who want to explore videoconferencing options should call Chad Sloan at the MRC at 978-7730.
