School of Performing Arts presents the musical 'Little Women in Concert'

The WSU School of Performing Arts invites you to a performance of "Little Women in Concert" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 1, to Saturday, March 3; and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, in Wilner Auditorium.

Louisa May Alcott's timeless story of the four March sisters and the men who love and empower them is brought to life in the musical version of "Little Women." Seating is reserved, so contact the Fine Arts Box Office at http://www.wichita.edu/fineartsboxoffice or call 978-3233 for tickets.

The concert nature and simplicity of WSU's production will allow this beloved story to be accessible to people of all ages and will give audiences a fuller perspective of these iconic characters by showcasing the music. Audiences will experience this journey through the wild imagination of Jo March, who embodies the belief that life is about "finding your tribe and loving them hard."

The cast is lead by Xan Mattek, Angie Thompson, Karen Blackmon, Julia Pottinger, Lexy Witcher, Trevor Seyl and Austin Ragusin. Guest artist and WSU alum, Hal Davis, will portray the role of Mr. Laurence.

The production team is lead by director / choreographer Amy Baker Schwiethale, music direction by Phil Taylor, stage managed by Kinsey McDaniel and Katherine Donaghue and designed by School of Performing Arts students Sydney Jordan (sound), Stephanie Crump (props) and faculty and staff Jason Flanders (scenic), Catherine Wieck (costumes), and David Neville (lights).

Allan Knee's book, Jason Howland's music, and Mindy Dickstein's lyrics have done an excellent job of telling Louisa May Alcott's story in musical form. Songs such as "Astonishing," "Some Things are Meant to Be" and "Days of Plenty" will remind audiences that life is measured in love -- love of family and love of self, and that the product of those two things is our great adventure.
