Mandatory all-campus tornado drill set for tomorrow (Tuesday, March 6)

Kansas Severe Weather Awareness Week is this week (Monday, March 5, through Friday, March 9). The WSU community will actively participate in the statewide safety tornado drill at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, March 6). This will be a mandatory university-wide drill to satisfy the requirements of the federal Clery Act. All personnel -- faculty, staff, students and guests -- are expected to go to a designated shelter until the all clear is given. The ShockerAlert system also will be activated during this drill and provide information about when you may resume normal activities. This drill will be educational for all involved and will provide those overseeing campus safety a way of evaluating the effectiveness of WSU's emergency preparedness during a tornado. Go to http://www.wichita.edu/tornado to learn more about what to do during a tornado warning and to locate your designated shelter.

The tornado drill will be overseen by the Emergency Building Coordinators in each building. If any issues are noted during the drill, please direct these to Mike Strickland, director, Environmental, Health & Safety Department. He can be reached at mike.strickland@wichita.edu or 978-3347.
