'Hydrogen - A Future Green Energy Carrier'
Storage of hydrogen in the form of solid-solution using metal hydrides has been recognized as one of the safe method of storing hydrogen for onboard as well as stationary applications. In addition to hydrogen storage, metal hydrides can be also effectively used as working materials in numerous engineering applications viz., refrigerator and heat pump, heat transformer, hydrogen compressor, thermal energy storage system, hydrogen purification system, etc.
Palanisamy has been working on the development various metal hydride-based energy conversion systems more than a decade. His research team has successfully developed several working prototypes of metal hydride-based hydrogen and heat storage devices, heat transformer, hydrogen compressor and cooling system.
They have completed numerous research projects based on the development and testing of metal hydride based hydrogen storage, hydrogen compressor, hydrogen purification, heat storage and heat pump devices.
In this presentation, with a brief introduction about the importance of hydrogen energy, some of the important research and developmental activities on the hydrogen storage and hydrogen-based various thermal management systems carried out at Indian Institute of Technology will be discussed.
