Watkins lecture: 'Prospects for Solar Energy Utilization'

The Watkins Visiting Professorship Lecture Series will feature a presentation by Roland Winston, professor of physics at the University of California-Merced and director of the California Advanced Solar Technologies Institute, at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in 100 Lindquist Hall. He will give a public lecture "Prospects for Solar Energy Utilization." Winston also will give a scientific lecture called "Thermodynamically Efficient Solar Energy Concentration," at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in 128 Jabara Hall. Winston invented the field of non-imaging optics and has developed devices that can harness sunlight and multiply the energy by almost 100,000 times its natural level.
