Students can make nominations for teaching award

Effective Nov. 16, WSU undergraduate students can make nominations for the Academy for Effective Teaching's prestigious annual teaching award by logging in to myWSU and following the link "Teaching Award Nomination" in the Student Tools tab. This is the only student-driven teaching award at WSU, and this is the first time electronic nominations have been accepted. Winners of the AET teaching award receive a permanent addition to their salaries in recognition of their achievements in the classroom. Nominations close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Written comments about why the teacher being nominated deserves the award are most useful to the judging panel. The judging panel uses the number of nominations and the written comments to form a short list of faculty from whom teaching portfolios are requested, and the final selections are made on the basis of those teaching portfolios.

In order to be eligible to make a nomination, students must have at least 30 hours of credit at WSU. For an instructor to be eligible for nomination, they must have been a full time faculty member at Wichita State for at least four years. Previous winners and full time administrators are not eligible to be nominated.

The Academy for Effective Teaching is a volunteer group of emeritus faculty members who were especially well regarded as teachers when they were teaching at Wichita State. For more information, go to http://www.wichita.edu/j/?321.
