This semester, nine WSU co-op students from liberal arts and sciences worked with at-risk youth from the Truancy Programs Office in the Wichita public school system in an effort to decrease office referrals and suspensions. "The co-op students assist the school social workers," said Chris Champagne, truancy programs supervisor. "They work in peer groups or one-on-one meetings. They are vital contributors to the success of the students, increasing attendance and decreasing truancy referrals."
