Reminders

* Join students, faculty and staff for a library orientation on Thursday, Jan. 14. One orientation will be held from 11 a.m.-noon, and one from 7-8 p.m. in Ablah Library. For posters, contact Angela Paul at 978-5084 or angela.paul@wichita.edu.

* The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research seeks applicants for director of the recently created Office for Faculty Development and Student Success. This position is open to current tenured faculty who hold the rank of associate professor or professor. For details about the search, go to http://www.wichita.edu/j/?356.

* Beginning Monday, Jan. 4, WSU will use PeopleAdmin. This new process will change the way you access certain information in the hiring process. HR plans to implement this process for lecturers as well. If your department needs to fill a position, contact Human Resources at 978-3065 to schedule a time to train your department in January. If you are not immediately impacted, training sessions will be offered 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays from January to April.

* WSU Fire/Safety will conduct the annual testing of the building fire alarm systems during the weeks of Dec. 21-25 and Dec. 28-31. Signs will be placed on building entrances while testing is in progress. Please treat all alarms as real, unless there are signs on doors stating otherwise.

* Many WSU units have international faculty and staff working in H-1B (Specialty Worker) visa status. Acquiring H-1B status will take longer as of Jan. 1, because of the U.S. Department of Labor's centralizing of the Prevailing Wage Determination process. Departments wanting to obtain H-1B status for their faculty or staff must plan for longer processing times. For more information, contact Armin Gerhard at 978-3232 or armin.gerhard@wichita.edu.
