Designated holidays for 2010

One holiday is already history, but you can see a list of dates that have been established as holidays for all offices at WSU for the remainder of 2010.

It is recognized that the functions of certain offices will require some personnel to be on duty during holidays. In those cases, arrangements will be made by the department head or supervisor, and compensatory hours will be granted accordingly.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day -- Monday, Jan. 18
Memorial Day -- Monday, May 31
*Independence Day -- Monday, July 5
Labor Day -- Monday, Sept. 6
**Veterans Day -- Thursday, Nov. 11
Thanksgiving Day -- Thursday, Nov. 25, and Friday, Nov. 26
*Christmas -- Friday, Dec. 24

An employee must be in pay status the entire workday before and the entire workday after the holiday in order to receive holiday credit.

In addition, a discretionary day is again authorized for state employees who have worked for the state for six continuous months, which is for observance of a holiday or other special day during calendar year 2010 (pay periods beginning Dec. 27, 2009, through Dec. 25, 2010). Employees who work a Monday through Friday schedule should plan to use their Discretionary Holiday by Dec. 23, 2010.

* When a legal holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is the officially observed holiday. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday is the officially observed holiday.

** Classes are in session; therefore, classified employees and unclassified nonexempt employees required to work shall be afforded compensatory time or compensation at the rate of one and one-half time for each hour worked. Faculty and unclassified exempt staff who accrue annual leave and are required to work on any listed or special holiday shall be afforded equivalent time off at a later date.
